Villages of Garden County in the spotlight in new book
A RECENTLY published book has thrown the spotlight on the history and development of villages in the Garden County. 'Wicklow Villages - a Historical guide', which was written by Wicklow based author Pat Dargan and produced by the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council, was unveiled at Tinakilly House in Rathnew. ‘Architecture is based on three elements - strength, commodity and light, ie how the structure is built, the building must be able to be used for the purpose for which it was built, and it must be a pleasing experience,’ explained Mr Dargan.In the 1760s a new town plan was laid out for Slane adjacent to earlier medieval settlement. It was laid out in a cross shaped.
